Col de Joux-Plane
The Col de Joux-Plane is the pass which links Samoëns to Morzine
through mountains between Mont-Blanc and Lake Geneva. The different road
variations on the Samoëns side of the pass, fit closely the relief
shapes: so, the bottom of the pass is very steep, then, the road serves
small hamlets scattered on the sun side shelves, the slope may be locally
soft before getting steep drastically.
The property of the pass is its slope very irregular: racing cyclists
who are pure climbers build there their win, cyclists who are mighty on
flat roads doesn't find their pace. All of them leaves in the air the magic
of the Tour de France.
Trucks are not allowed to take Joux-Plane, the road doesn't know noise
and big Diesel smoke, it remains narrow and climbs among meadows without
a hairpin bend or a turn looking like another. Above 1000-meter altitude,
the Mont-Blanc massif appears, royal, with its best profile.
That are the reasons why the col de Joux-Plane is the most beautiful
pass in the world for Fabrice
et Louis Maisonneuve.
